Ebonyi Mother Advocates Preservation of Indigenous Languages At 59‎

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Ebonyi mother and faith advocate, Lady Mary Nkwegu, has urged parents to teach their children their native dialects to preserve cultural heritage and promote better understanding in society.

‎ ‎Lady Nkwegu, wife of Architect Edward Nkwegu of EDON Nigeria Limited, made the call during the celebration of her 59th birthday at her residence in Abakaliki. ‎ ‎She described the Izhi dialect as a source of pride, stressing that despite the influence of modern civilisation, she deliberately ensured her children were raised to speak their indigenous language.

‎ ‎Lady Nkwegu, popularly known as the "Queen of Peace",encouraged mothers, regardless of their ethnic background, to prioritize speaking their native languages with their children, noting that every language is valuable and strengthens family and community bonds. ‎ ‎She also expressed gratitude to her family, friends and well-wishers for celebrating with her, urging everyone to remain faithful to God, whom she described as the foundation of a fulfilled life. ‎ ‎Lady Nkwegu further praised her husband, Architect Edward Nkwegu, for his support throughout their marriage and advised young couples to embrace understanding, patience and mutual respect as essential ingredients for peaceful and successful homes.

‎ ‎In their remarks, one of her daughters, Barrister Maryann Nkwegu who's the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Gender Based Violence and Dr. Ogechi Nkwegu, Managing Director, Nkwegu Medicals Specialist Hospital, Abakaliki thanked their mother for her love towards them and prayed for good health and divine protection. ‎ ‎The celebration featured cake cutting, presentation of gifts and goodwill messages from family and friends. ‎
