The member representing Abakaliki North Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Chidi-Nwoke(Defender), has reaffirmed his commitment to the promotion, preservation and protection of the culture, customs and traditions of the Izhi Nnodo people.
Chidi-Nwoke stated this in a goodwill message to the people of Izhi Nnodo Clan as they celebrate the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival, describing the annual cultural event as more than a celebration of harvest, but a profound expression of the people's heritage, identity, communal solidarity and enduring values.
According to him, the festival provides an opportunity for the people to honour the wisdom of their forebears, celebrate the fruits of their collective labour, strengthen communal bonds and renew their commitment to preserving the cultural legacy of the Izhi people.
The lawmaker, who described himself as a bona fide son of Izhi Nnodo, said a people who cherish their heritage would have a stronger foundation upon which to build a prosperous future.
“Our traditions are not merely relics of the past; they are invaluable instruments for transmitting our values, fostering unity and inspiring future generations,” he said.
Chidi-Nwoke also congratulated the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, on the occasion of the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival, commending his administration's commitment to peace, development and the advancement of the state.
He wished the people of Izhi Nnodo a bumper and fruitful harvest, praying that the efforts of farmers and the fruits of their labour would translate into prosperity, sustenance and renewed hope for households across the clan.
He further called on the people to celebrate the festival with joy, thanksgiving, love and brotherhood while remaining conscious of their collective responsibility to preserve and transmit their cultural heritage to future generations.
“Gee Ojiji Kee Apha Jịtara Anyị Iphe Ọma ooo! Gee Ọdụrụ Izhi Lee Ree Oooo!” he declared, wishing the people of Izhi Nnodo a happy and peaceful Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival.
