Ebonyi Police Arrest 620 Suspects,Recovers 31 Firearms In 5 Months ‎

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has arrested six hundred and twenty suspects in connection with three hundred and seventy two reported criminal cases between April and August this year. ‎

‎ ‎The Command says six hundred and twenty of the suspects are males while thirty nine are females, with three hundred and nine suspects already charged to court in connection with 162 cases. ‎ ‎Speaking during a press briefing in Abakaliki, the Commissioner of Police said the Command also recovered 31 assorted firearms, 33 rounds of ammunition and three vehicles within the period under review. ‎ ‎The Police highlighted several major breakthroughs, including the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a Beretta pistol at Onuebonyi-Eziagu in Ishielu Local Government Area.

‎ ‎The Command also arrested five suspects at Onunkwuda Market Square, Onueke, where two pump-action guns, a locally made gun, machetes, live cartridges and suspected illicit drugs were recovered. ‎ ‎In another development, police arrested a man, Ajah Ikechukwu, who allegedly staged his own kidnap and demanded 25 million naira ransom from his family, after allegedly receiving one million naira. ‎ ‎The Command also rescued a kidnap victim, arrested a suspected member of the gang and recovered a locally made pistol, 13 live cartridges, a mask, gloves and charms.

‎ ‎Police said two additional suspects were recently arrested in connection with the murder of the Traditional Ruler of Ishinkwo Autonomous Community, Onicha Local Government Area, bringing the number of suspects arrested in the case to eight. ‎ ‎The Command also disclosed the arrest of a man accused of cyberbullying, cyberstalking and threatening to publish intimate videos of his former girlfriend unless her family paid 17 million naira. ‎

‎Meanwhile, the Police Command says it is fully prepared for the ongoing 2027 electioneering activities and has warned politicians and their supporters against violence, intimidation, hate speech and other acts capable of disrupting public peace. ‎ ‎The Command urged residents to continue providing credible information on criminal activities reaffirming its commitment to intelligence-led and community-oriented policing to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the State. ‎
