Gov. Nwifuru Charges Council Chairmen On Integrity, Legacy ‎

‎ ‎Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has charged newly inaugurated local government council chairmen and other council officials to shun the pursuit of quick wealth and uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties. ‎ ‎Governor Nwifuru gave the charge today in Abakaliki during the flag-off of a three-day capacity-building workshop organized by the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters for newly inaugurated council chairmen, vice chairmen, Heads of Personnel Management, HPMs, treasurers, Planning, Research and Statistics officers, PRSs, and coordinators of development centres. ‎

‎ ‎The Governor warned the officials to be mindful of the decisions they take, stressing that their actions in office would determine the legacy they leave behind. ‎ ‎He urged them to resist pressure to accumulate wealth illegally, saying public office should not be used as a means of becoming wealthy overnight. ‎ ‎Governor Nwifuru also advised the council officials not to be distracted by criticism, but to remain focused, diligent, resilient and committed to serving the people. ‎ ‎He urged them to ensure that every process through which public funds are managed is lawful and transparent, warning that those who allow themselves to be misled into wrongdoing may live to regret their actions. ‎ ‎The Governor called on the officials to retrace their steps whenever necessary and place the interest of the people above personal gains. ‎ ‎Reacting, the State Chairman, Ebonyi State Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON),Mrs. Helen Aduga and Mr. Chidi Ogbonna, Chairman, Ebonyi State Coordinators' Forum described the workshop as educational as it helped them to learn more about their responsibilities in their elective offices. ‎ ‎
