Ebonyi: NUJ Commends Nwifuru’s Infrastructure Drive After Project Inspection

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, has commended the state government for what it described as significant progress in infrastructure development under Governor Francis Nwifuru.

‎ ‎The NUJ, led by its State Chairman, Samson Nwafor, made the commendation yesterday after inspecting several government projects across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 NUJ Press Week, themed: “2027: The Ballot, The Truth and The Future.” ‎ ‎The projects inspected included the Nwofe Agbaja Flyover, Ebonyi State ICT University at Opherekpe Agbaja, Ebonyi International Hotel, Industrial Clusters Iziammgbo, Vanco Flyover and Underground Tunnel, as well as road projects within and outside Abakaliki. ‎ ‎Samson said the exercise was aimed at enabling journalists to independently verify government projects and provide factual information to the public in line with their watchdog responsibility. ‎ ‎He described the level of development at the ICT University and other project sites as impressive, urging contractors and engineers to maintain professional standards and ensure that projects were delivered in the interest of the citizens.

‎ ‎The NUJ chairman also called on the state government to sustain its development drive and urged journalists to uphold balanced, factual and constructive reportage. ‎ ‎On his part, the State Commissioner for Works, Engr.Stanley Lebechi-Mbam, commended the NUJ for incorporating project inspection into its Press Week activities. ‎ ‎Mbam said the administration’s performance should be assessed against the promises contained in the People’s Charter of Needs, highlighting road construction, education, workers’ welfare, urban renewal and community connectivity as areas of progress. ‎ ‎He disclosed that the Vanco Flyover and Underground Tunnel was expected to be completed by February 2027. ‎ ‎Other officials who spoke during the inspection, including engineers handling the Nwofe Agbaja Flyover and Ebonyi International Hotel projects, Quantity Surveyor Chiamaka Mbam and Engineer Moses Uguru explained that significant construction work had been completed, while other aspects were at various stages of completion. ‎ ‎The inspection formed part of activities leading to the grand finale of the 2026 NUJ Press Week. ‎
