1-billion Dollar Empowerment Scheme: Ebonyi Govt Warns Enumerators Against Extortion ‎

‎The Ebonyi State Government has warned enumerators involved in the expansion of the State and National Social Registers against extorting residents during the registration exercise.
‎ ‎The Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Ann Aligwe, gave the warning in Abakaliki during the training of enumerators and desk officers for the exercise. ‎ ‎She stressed the need for transparency and professionalism, warning that sharp practices could jeopardise the state’s participation in the programme. ‎
‎Aligwe said the exercise targets five hundred thousand households, adding that the data collected would support government interventions in health, agriculture, education, social welfare and other sectors. ‎ ‎She said the initiative, supported by welfarist Governor, Francis Nwifuru, would provide reliable data for the World Bank’s one-billion-dollar social protection and empowerment programme. ‎
‎The Commissioner urged enumerators to cooperate with residents for a smooth exercise, while resist the temptation of demanding for money before registration as the exercise will be properly monitored and default will be penalized. ‎ ‎Cooroborating, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Henry Nworie, called on beneficiaries to take ownership of the programme for the interest of the State.. ‎
