Summit: Ebonyi Stakeholders Endorse Nwifuru For Second Term, Reaffirm Zoning
Political leaders and stakeholders in Ebonyi State have endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in 2027 and reaffirmed the existing governorship zoning arrangement among the three senatorial districts.
The resolutions were reached at the Ebonyi State Leaders and Stakeholders’ Political Summit held on Tuesday at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.
In a communiqué read by Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Community Engagement, Chioma Nweze, the stakeholders proposed that Ebonyi North should retain the governorship until 2031, when power would rotate to Ebonyi Central, and subsequently to Ebonyi South in 2039.
They said the rotational arrangement, which dates back to the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999, promotes equity, political inclusion and peaceful coexistence.
The summit also commended Governor Nwifuru’s administration for its development initiatives under the People’s Charter of Needs, urging sustained investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and youth development.
The stakeholders called on political parties, aspirants, security agencies and electoral authorities to work towards credible and peaceful elections in 2027, warning against hate speech, misinformation and political violence.
The summit was chaired by the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, with former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, former Governor and Minister of Works David Umahi, and former Governor Martin Elechi among the prominent attendees.
Our Correspondent reports that Governor Nwifuru was represented by his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, as the event was attended by senators, national Assembly members, Seating and former Commissioners, civil society groups among others.
