Christian Leader Advocates Market Women Participation in Politics

  EBONYI State Chairman,Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN,and Special Assistant to the governor on Social Welfare and Religious Matters, Rev.Fr.Abraham Nwali on weekend advised market women to get their Permanent Voters Card to enable them participate fully in the upcoming general election.
  The priest made the call at Pastoral Centre-Mile 50,Abakaliki during the inauguration,Fund Raising Party and Empowerment programme of the union,noting that women has the power of deciding who rule the state as they made seventy five percent of votes cast.
  He enumerated votes cast during election to have come mostly from women who in through interaction learnt that many have  obtained their permanent voters card and stand a better chance of going to the booth on the day of election, not like the men counterparts, who have thousand reasons while they have not gotten the card.
  Fr.Nwali advised the people to observe law of equity as already practised in the State by ensuring all political zones are given fair and equal opportunity to rule accordingly,stressing that it would go in a long way to strengthening democracy as well put an end to cry for marginalization as commonly seen in most parts of the country.
  The CAN chairman, tasked women to vote leaders who have interest of the people at heart and not those who are there simply to enrich themselves and their immediate families,cautioning against vote selling which he compared to the Biblical Esau who out of desire for immediate satisfaction sold his future for a pot of food.
    He lauded the ruling government of the state in accommodating women by ensuring they are given key positions,whereas, Widows in thousands are given special attention through empowerment.
   He reiterated that leadership was a call for service for growth and development of people for which the ruling government has put up its best to giving her people the best they ever sort for, challenging all political office holders in both local government state and federal level to toe the path of Engr.Dave Umahi as that would not only salvage the State but would help in compete with others in league of nations.
   The Social Welfare and Religious matter Coordinator commended the government on its efforts in both area of agriculture, education, overall empowerment and in health which he said, indigent patients in hospitals within and across the State who many had given up to their fate have been rescued and their bill paid by the state government.
  Earlier in her speech,Mrs.Nnenna Chris Otuonye,the Union Secretary, noted that the group was formed as an umbrella to empower women through skills acquisition especially the underserved among others not limited to dissemination of information on practices against the rights,freedom and wellbeing of women.
  The event featured award giving among the recipient are Comrade Christopher Eze,Chairman Abakpa main market who commended them for their effort in uplifting women in the society.
