ASUU's Court Judgement: We're not happy with the federal government-NANS

... Gives reasons to back call off From Nwogha Ndubuisi, Abakaliki
The vice president, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Comrade Nwuruku Alfred has faulted the decision of the federal government over the elongated strike which they dragged ASUU to court. Nwuruku while reacting on the Court Judgement passed recently in Abakaliki described the decision as heartbreaking. He lamented that students are not happy with the action of the federal government taking Academic Staff Union of the Universities,(ASUU) to court as such is aimed to truncate the major demands of the union. Nwuruku who explained that students are concerned about the development that's likely going to injure both the union body and students, noted that the decision to go back to class has not been made open despite the cancellation of the street protest from ASUU. He appealed to ASUU to call off the industrial action for the interest of the students while they introduce another window to negotiate for their earlier demands. He added that the students as critical stakeholders in the business has interfaced with the federal government to include them in the negotiations as to monitor the deliberation that would permanently or temporarily end the strike. "As at today, nobody has received press from ASUU that the strike has been called off. "We're worried because this same Government is shifting from their responsibility of providing for the demand and improved academic welfare of our Nigeria students instead they decided to take ASUU to court. "This court action is what everybody knows that it's not always very easy to end, they'll continue to be in court while we are at home suffering. "This is a call that at this point in time the National Leadership of NANS is supporting the government and that ASUU should call of the strike but, should not derail from the matter of discussion which is that we want to be in our various tertiary institutions studying as the negotiations continue. He further hinted that their supporting the government at the peak of the electioneering campaign should not hinder the union's demands but to reduce the young undergraduates from becoming victims of political restiveness due to idleness. On his part, the chairperson Academic Staff Union of the Universities,Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, AE-FUNAI, Comrade Ogugua Egwu, said they would remains resolute in their demands. He stated that the union body would continue to employ all the necessary legal means for the greater good of the academic future of Nigeria universities.
