Ebonyi Federal Lawmaker Built 30 VIP Toilets

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals,(SDGs) initiative to curbing global increase in open defecation, the lawmaker representing Afikpo North/South federal constituency, Hon Idu Igariwey has built thirty VIP toilets across the 23 wards in his constituency. This was contained in the statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki and endorsed by the lawmaker, stating that the action was to compliment the effort of SDGs to end open defecation by 2030.

It was gathered that the 23 wards in the constituency were earlier hit by the demand for modern day public toilet facility which prompted the attention of the federal lawmaker who ensure that every part of the area benefitted from the concise intervention, hence, are to be commissioned before end of this year. " According to latest published data, about 122 million people are practicing open defecation, which is a practice that contaminates the environment and spreads diseases like diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and dysentery to the human population, and all these emanate from poor sanitary practices. "Open defecation is among the common unhealthy practices which have posed serious challenges to our environment. It directly affects the health and wellbeing of all the people living within a community,...little wonder why the United Nations takes it very seriously! He added, "In order to stem the problem of open defecation, governments across different levels have taken measures towards ending this menace by building basic sanitary systems in some communities, but these are either poorly built, or are grossly inadequate to meet the huge populations of our people. "This is why Hon. Igariwey's interventions in this area are not only commendable, but need to be rated in terms of the health benefits, as well as the economic values accruing to the V.I.P. toilet units he has attracted to communities in his constituency. As part of his determination to tackle open defecation in his constituency, Hon. Iduma Igariwey has embarked on this life touching project. Recall that the SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The SDGs are intended to be achieved by 2030, and they are included in the UNGA Resolution called _Agenda 2030.he added Also, recall was that the Sustainable Development Goals,(SDGs) or the global developmental goals, are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be the shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for all people living on the planet, both now and in the coming future.
