A bill to ban crusade of spiritual cleansing passes first reading in the Ebonyi state House of Assembly. The honourable member representing Izzi West constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Abiri Godwin has moved a motion of urgent public importance to ban crusade of spiritual cleansing/fishing out witches and wizard through prophecy by men of God/prophets in Ebonyi State.
Following the activities of one prophet Ubadimma at Agharaoza village, Ndiebor Ezzainyimagu in Izzi LGA last month which later resulted to serious threat to lives, destruction of properties, looting and possible breakdown of law and order which led to the destruction of the compound of Mr John Ekpono in Agharaoza village which is part of Izzi West constituency and such activities in other parts of Ebonyi State. The motion seeks to ban such activities and should there be need for that, the villagers must get a written approval from the council chairman, DC coordinator, traditional ruler or the town Union chairman of the community before carrying out such crusade.

However, after the motion was seconded, the honourable member representing Ohaozara East constituency, Hon Chikezie Igu suggested that the motion needs urgent attention and that the ban will be for the entire Ebonyi State. He however enumerated how such crusades have also recked havoc in other parts of Ebonyi State owing to the fact that such spiritual cleansing was not monitored by security agencies to avoid breakdown of law and order. Nevertheless, other members of the House lend their voices in support of the motion. The Ebonyi State House of Assembly adopted the motion whole and the speaker directed the Clerk to write memo to the appropriate quarters.
