#ENDSARS: Group honours fallen heroes, reaffirms demand for good governance
As today marked another memorable day for the demand for the reformation of Special Anti-Robbery Squad,(SARs) unit in the Nigeria Police Force, the National Youth Council of Nigeria Ebonyi state chapter's chairman, comrade Douglas Ochishi has honoured those who lost their lives during the national protest.
Comrade Ochishi in a statement signed and made available to newsmen said that the council would continued to make demand and pray for good governance, respect for rule of law and social justice for all.
The statement reads in part,"It is barely four years anniversary of Endsars nation wide protest, a moment in a history the youth of this country staged a peaceful protest for justice, emancipation from shackles of police brutality on citizenry, though, the peaceful protest turned bloody in most parts of the country, so many of our youth lost their precious lives to that ugly experience, yes today, there's much need for us to remember and honour the departed souls of those who lost their lives in that peaceful protest and pray for those families that lost their loved ones that stood firmly in pursuit of Justice.
"The Endsars protest of 20th October, 2020 remains a day that will forever live in infamy in the history of Nigeria and in the minds of her citizens, as Nigerian, our shared shocks and honour at the bloody events should not only strengthen the human chord of compassion for the suffering of our people but it should more importantly lead us collectively to re-affirm our resolution to continue to make demand and pray for good governance, respect for rule of law and social justice for all.
"The history of the past remains an important tool for shaping the dream future, therefore as we run down the memory lane on the significant impact of the endsars protest, It is our collective prayers that citizens are called to embbibe the spirit of tolerance and patience, diplomatic approach to issues of national concern even at the peak of the present economic hardship in Nigeria occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and subsequent hike in fuel pump price and other essential commodities in the country.
He emphasized that while peaceful protest remains a constitutional approach to addressing national pressing needs that it becomes necessary to handle it within the armbit of the law
"Peaceful protest remains a constitutional approach to addressing national pressing needs but when any protest goes beyond the control of the organisers and activists it becomes a wide wind that blows no man any good, hence, the need for youth and stakeholders engagement through a meaningful town hall meeting, using every diplomatic approaches to achieve the desired goals and the protesters."
