Explosion: Ebonyi Govt Donates Cash Gift, Relief Materials To Deceased Family
Ebonyi state governor, Francis Nwifuru has paid a condolence visit to the family of Nwajị Jeremiah who died alongside his wife, his six children, brother and three servants at the Ugwu-oyeama tanker explosion in Abofia village in Ebonyi local government area of the state.
The incident which occured on the 25th of January along Ugwu-Oyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway killed scores of road users including children, and injured many others.
In her condolence message to the family, Governor Nwifuru represented by the wife, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru condemned the incident and described the situation as unfortunate and prayed God grant eternal repose of the souls of late Mr Nwaji and family.
She equally prayed that God would grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss, and encouraged the family to be strong in faith hoping for a better consolation from God and also prayed for God's protection on the State to avoid further reccurrence of such incident.
“This tragedy is deeply painful, and we share in the sorrow of the Nwaji family. Losing multiple family members in such a horrific manner is beyond comprehension. As a government, we stand with you in this time of grief, and we assure you of our unwavering support,” she stated.
In their separate reactions, the Chief of Staff to the governor , Prof Emmanuel Echiegu and the commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, the Chairman of Ebonyi local government, Chinedu Uburu, enjoined the family to be strong in faith and thanked Ebonyi state government for putting humanity in the forefront of their people's chatter of needs Nwifuru's-led administration.
Earlier in an interview, the brother to the deceased Nwajị Ikechukwu explained that their deceased brother and family were coming back from Onitsha in Anambra State where they were based for their father's burial when the ugly incident took place and called on the government to facilitate the provision of a legal framework that would stop tanker and heavy duty vehicles from operating at in the daytime to reduce the number of casualties recorded as a result of tanker explosions in the different parts of the country and thanked Ebonyi state government for coming to condole with their family in the most needful time.
Our Correspondent reports that the family was presented with a cash gift of five million naira and other relief materials by the state government to help in cushioning the effect of hardship faced by the bereaved family.
