The Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Professor Anthony Okorie-Ani has appealed for the sustainability of West African Examination Council, (WAEC) ethical status to provide Nigeria children with the needed educational standard. He made this known on Wednesday on 9th July, 2025 while making his submission to the petition on the dismissal of the former Head of Scripts Room at the West Africa Examination Council, Ms. Sandra Harry recently accused of involving in high level of malpractice at River State.
It was learnt that the former staff who had served for 31 years was dismissed by WEAC for allegedly smuggling examination answer scripts of some absentee candidates into the envelopes of those who wrote the examination in Porthacourt. After Ms Harry and two others were found culpable of the offence by three investigation committees set up by WAEC, their outright sack was recommended but she hurriedly petitioned Senate claiming wrongful dismissal and requested for restoration and payment of her outstanding salaries and allowances. Senator Ani advised that the report of the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public petition should be upheld to maintain the integrity of the senate. “To me, these are grievous offences and if we are to go by the report of the committee, it means that the petition should not have come to the public domain because, if we accept the report as it is, our integrity will be put to question. “Therefore, I am of the opinion that the culprit should face the full wrath of the law and that is my stand” he said. We gathered that the senate finally supported the WAEC action against the offenders and thereby called for stronger accountability measures to protect the sanctity in education sector.senator Ani added
