Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, Ghana Host 4th Democracy Dialogue In Accra

The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Ghana, on Tuesday hosted the 4th edition of the GEJ Democracy Dialogue under the theme “Why Democracies Die.”
The high-level dialogue brought together political leaders, diplomats, scholars, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders to reflect on the role of democracy in nation-building and examine the challenges confronting democratic governance across Africa.
Discussions at the event emphasized the need for African countries to safeguard democratic values as a pathway to peace, security, and sustainable development. Participants also highlighted the importance of strengthening institutions, promoting justice, and deepening citizens’ trust in governance.
Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, expressed gratitude to the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the Government of Ghana for their partnership in hosting the event.
He also acknowledged the contributions of former Nigerian President H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo; ECOWAS President, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray; Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah; and former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, H.E. Kadre Désiré Ouédraogo, among others, for their insightful interventions.
“The lessons and submissions from this dialogue provide valuable pathways toward building peaceful, just, and democratic nations,” Jonathan said. "Together, let us commit to safeguarding democracy as the surest path to peace, security, and prosperity across Africa.”
