Ikwo LG Official Urges Ebonyians to Embrace Voter Registration Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Secretary of the Forum of Management Committee Areas in Ikwo Local Government Area and leader of Ndufu-Ikwo management committee members, Hon. Ewa Nworie, has urged Ebonyians to fully embrace the ongoing voter registration exercise to secure their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Nworie made the call while interacting with journalists on assessment of the sensitization campaign on voter registration across communities in Ikwo Local Government Area.
He emphasized that participation in the exercise remains the most important civic responsibility of eligible citizens, stressing that power ultimately lies with the electorate in choosing who governs them.
According to him, instead of blaming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for poor outcomes during elections, citizens should prioritize registering and collecting their PVCs to enable them exercise their democratic rights.
“The turnout has been very impressive, and that is because of the approach introduced courtesy of the Council Chairman, Barr. Sunday Nwankwo, which has yielded positive results,” Hon. Nworie noted.
He commended the Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barr. Nwankwo, alongside other stakeholders, for their active contributions in supporting Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration and in driving sensitization efforts that have encouraged residents to register in large numbers.
Hon. Nworie particularly applauded the Council Chairman for providing vehicles to ease the movement of rural dwellers to registration centres, adding that such interventions were instrumental in ensuring inclusivity. He urged beneficiaries to make maximum use of the opportunity, pointing out that accessibility should no longer be an excuse for non-participation.
“It is high time our people understood that voter card registration is their civic responsibility. This is the only way they can decide who leads them instead of sitting back to apportion blame on those in power,” he added.
He further charged community leaders, youths, and women groups to intensify grassroots mobilization to ensure Ebonyi State ranks among the leading states with the highest number of registered voters on the INEC portal before the close of the exercise.
