FG Withdraws Registration Certificate of National Youth Council of Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has withdrawn the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following an official communication from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Omolara Esan, the ministry confirmed that the registration certificate earlier granted to the Council on October 28, 2020, has been officially revoked.
According to the statement, the decision followed a detailed review of the NYCN’s records and governance practices by the CAC, which revealed multiple violations of both the NYCN Constitution and relevant provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, particularly Sections 833 and 834.
As a result, the Commission has de-recognized all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and management within the organization. The move, the ministry noted, was taken pursuant to the powers vested in the CAC under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of CAMA 2020, after a comprehensive investigation into the Council’s affairs.
The investigation reportedly uncovered a prolonged leadership crisis spanning over 18 years, prompting the Commission to take decisive steps aimed at restoring order and credibility to the youth body.
To ensure continuity and reform, the CAC has constituted an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee and manage the Council’s affairs for a period of one year, effective October 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development has appealed to all stakeholders and youth organizations to cooperate fully with the Interim Management Committee in the ongoing restructuring process designed to restore unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN.
