Nwebonyi Denies Report of Lawsuit by Federal Government, Describes It as Mischievous Falsehood
The Office of the Deputy Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate has refuted a viral report alleging that the Federal Government has filed a lawsuit against Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi over purported vile language directed at Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Senator Nwebonyi’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Romanus Uzor, described the publication first circulated by Sahara Reporters as “a mischievous, unfounded, and fabricated piece of falsehood sponsored by political jobbers and attention seekers.”
Ozioko stated that the report was not only false but also illogical, as the Federal Government already has an existing criminal defamation case against Senator Natasha, which is still pending before a competent court of law.
“It is legally illogical and procedurally impossible for the same Federal Government to institute another case against Senator Nwebonyi on the same issue,” the statement clarified.
He further maintained that Senator Nwebonyi has no pending case with the Federal Government of Nigeria, describing the report as a calculated attempt by “political traducers and malicious actors desperate to tarnish the impeccable image and hard-earned reputation of the Deputy Chief Whip.”
The statement urged members of the public to disregard what it termed “a smear campaign from the pit of hell crafted to misinform, mislead, and create unnecessary political tension.”
Ozioko assured that Senator Nwebonyi remains focused on his legislative duties and his commitment to the service of his constituents and Nigeria at large.
