Christmas: Those Who Have Been Given Should Give Back to Society — Comrade Nwovu
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on the Road Maintenance Agency and Board of Trustees Chairman of the Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, Hon. Benedict Nwovu, has urged well-meaning individuals to imbibe the spirit of giving and selfless service to humanity, in line with the people-oriented mantra of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Hon. Nwovu made the call on Thursday during his official Christmas celebration and distribution of gifts to over 120 indigent persons and community members at his Ndiuruku-Amegu country home in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking at the event, the governor’s aide described Christmas as a season of love, sacrifice, and compassion, stressing that Governor Nwifuru’s leadership philosophy encourages those who have been blessed to extend a helping hand to the less privileged in society.
According to him, the humanitarian gesture was his modest contribution towards supporting the governor’s vision of inclusive governance and grassroots development, while also putting smiles on the faces of vulnerable persons during the festive season.
“This season reminds us that leadership and privilege come with responsibility. Those who have been given should give back to their communities.
"That is the essence of Governor Nwifuru’s mantra and the true meaning of Christmas. I want to thank my colleagues in government and urge them to replicate this gesture in their respective communities,” he said.
Hon. Nwovu also advised youths to shun crime and social vices, noting that such acts do not pay and only destroy their future at a time when creativity, innovation, and hard work should define them.
Earlier, Comrade Nnabuike Ottah, Chairman of the Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Abakaliki, described Hon. Nwovu as a true philanthropist who genuinely cares for the welfare of his people.
Community leaders and youth representatives, including Chief Augustine Akpu, State President of Ebonyi State Town Union and President of Amegu Town Union, as well as Mr. Stephen Uguru, Secretary of the Eze’s Cabinet in Amegu Community, commended Hon. Nwovu for his consistency in humanitarian service and community development, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
They also praised Governor Nwifuru’s administration for fostering a culture of compassion, service, and people-centered governance among political appointees, while offering prayers for sustained peace and development in Ebonyi State.
Beneficiaries of the gesture, including Regina Nwodabe from Ebyia Unuphu and Rose Omigiri from Amechara, expressed gratitude to Hon. Nwovu for identifying with those who could not repay him, praying God to reward him abundantly.
The event attracted party faithful, youth groups, women leaders, members of St Benedict's Family, and residents from neighboring communities, turning the celebration into a moment of unity, joy, and renewed hope.
Items distributed at the event included bags of rice, wrappers, food condiments, and other essential materials, all of which were received with excitement and appreciation by the beneficiaries.
