Just In: Omege Echara Elects New Executive As Stakeholders Task Leaders On Inclusive Governance
Omege Echara village in Ikwo Local Government Area has elected a new executive council, with stakeholders urging the leaders to promote unity and carry every segment of the community along in their administration.
The election, held on Friday, 12th December 2025, witnessed a large turnout of men, women and youths from the six hamlets that make up the village.
Stakeholders present—including the member representing Ikwo North in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu; aide to former Governor Elechi, Hon. Silas Oginyi; and former House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Ebere Emmanuel Alinch, among others—commended residents for the peaceful conduct before, during, and after the exercise.
Announcing the results, Hon. Silas Oginyi revealed that Mr. Chidi Iyeji emerged as the unanimously elected Chairman (Village President), with Mr. Chukwuka Philip as Vice Chairman, Mr. Patrick Ogboloko as Secretary, and Chita Udoka as Youth President. Other offices were filled based on zoning arrangements across the sub-villages.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Mr. Chidi Iyeji, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to run an open-door administration and called on all stakeholders to unite, avoid divisive tendencies, and work collectively for the development of Omege Echara.
The election was supervised by the Head of Department, Conflict Resolution, Ebonyi State Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr. Martins Igurube; the Coordinator of Ikwo Southeast Development Centre, Hon. John Ogodo; security agencies; and the press.
Reacting to the outcome, Mr. Igurube noted that disagreements are normal in any democratic process. He urged all aggrieved members to embrace peace and appealed to community leaders to address outstanding issues raised within seven days to sustain harmony in the village.
