Makinde at 58: PDP Leaders Reaffirm Unity, Economic Recovery At Birthday, Book Launch

The First Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi Central Zone, Hon. Kelvin Tobias Chukwu has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to national unity, economic recovery and inclusive governance.
Tobias made this known at the 58th birthday celebration and book launch of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, an event that also served as a rallying point for PDP leaders from across the country. The ceremony, organised by the PDP National Vice Chairman (South East), Chief Ali Odefa, attracted prominent party stakeholders and leaders from different geopolitical zones, reflecting what Tobias described as the enduring spirit of unity within the party.
According to him, the occasion transcended politics and ethnic boundaries, citing a symbolic moment where an Igbo family named a child after Governor Makinde. “We are here to celebrate Governor Makinde and also witness a rare moment where an Igbo family names a child after him. This is a powerful symbol of national cohesion that goes beyond ethnic and regional divisions,” Tobias said. He commended Governor Makinde for his stabilising role within the PDP, particularly during challenging periods, noting that his leadership has continued to strengthen democratic values within the party and the nation. “Governor Makinde’s leadership has been a pillar for the PDP and for Nigeria at large, especially in difficult times,” he added. Tobias expressed optimism that the PDP remains well-positioned to address Nigeria’s economic and social challenges, stressing that effective leadership remains the key to national recovery. “The country is going through tough times, but with the right leadership, the PDP has the capacity to bring about meaningful and lasting change,” he stated. He further highlighted the ongoing rebuilding process within the party under the leadership of the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, noting that renewed engagement, unity and inclusiveness among stakeholders remain top priorities. In his remarks, Governor Makinde reiterated his call for true federalism and unity in diversity as essential pillars for Nigeria’s progress. The Oyo State Governor was also commended for his leadership style by the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila.
