New Year: Nwifuru’s Aide, Nkwegu, Intensifies Advocacy on Gender-Based Awareness

As part of activities marking the New Year, an aide to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Miss Maryann Nkwegu, has intensified advocacy campaigns on gender-based awareness, calling for collective action to curb gender-based violence and discrimination in society.
Nkwegu, who spoke during an awareness engagement with stakeholders and community members in event of New Year celebration at Okpoduma-Agbaja, emphasized that the fight against gender-based violence requires sustained education, policy enforcement, and attitudinal change across all levels of society. She noted that gender-based violence remains a major social challenge, stressing that the protection of men, women, children, and other vulnerable groups must be treated as a shared responsibility of government, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and civil society organizations.
According to her, the administration of Governor Nwifuru is committed to promoting gender equity, safeguarding human dignity, and ensuring that victims of abuse have access to justice and support services. Nkwegu further urged citizens to speak up against all forms of abuse and discrimination, adding that silence only empowers perpetrators and undermines societal progress.
She reaffirmed that the New Year advocacy campaign would be sustained through community outreach, media engagements, and partnerships aimed at strengthening public awareness and encouraging reporting of gender-based abuses. The event attracted youth groups, women organizations, and school children who commended the state government for prioritizing gender-based awareness and pledged their support towards building a safer and more inclusive Ebonyi State.
