Just In: APC House of Representatives Primaries Peaceful in Ebonyi-Gov Nwifuru
The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has stated that the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives primaries were generally peaceful.
Governor Nwifuru made the disclosure while speaking with journalists shortly after monitoring the exercise across parts of the state.
The governor commended stakeholders and leaders of the party for ensuring that the primaries conducted in the six federal constituencies of the state were peaceful, calm and devoid of rancour among contestants.
According to him, the party was consolidating on its earlier consensus arrangement.
Governor Nwifuru noted that those contesting against the consensus arrangement were acting within their democratic rights and should not be viewed as enemies of the party.
While reacting on the issue of some party members resignation explained that those who resigned their positions made so to pursue their political ambitions out of personal conviction, stressing that resignation does not amount to incompetence.
The governor added that democracy thrives on healthy opposition and participation, noting that the party accepted their resignations and wished them well in their aspirations.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, describing it as peaceful and orderly.
Governor Nwifuru also called on members of the APC to actively participate in the remaining primaries scheduled for next week.
Speaking during monitoring at Nkwegu Primary School field, the member representing Abakaliki/Izzi federal constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru, who scored 1,500 votes and his Ikwo/Ezza South counterpart, Comrade Chinedu Ogah described the consesus decision of stakeholders as the surest way to have rancour free election and thanked voters for their mass turn out.
