2027: Ebonyi Town Union Leaders Endorse Tinubu, Nwifuru, Nwebonyi, Other APC Candidates
Town Union Presidents from communities across Ebonyi North Senatorial District have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Monday during a gathering of Town Union Presidents held at Amagu, the ancestral home of the Izhi-speaking people in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking on behalf of the leaders, the State President of the Association of Town Union Presidents and President-General of Amagu Autonomous Community, Chief Augustine Akpu, said the decision followed extensive consultations among grassroots leaders across the district.
According to him, the endorsement covers President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru, Senator Nwebonyi for the Ebonyi North Senatorial seat, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, as well as APC candidates seeking seats in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
Akpu said the leaders considered the performances of Governor Nwifuru and Senator Nwebonyi before arriving at their decision, commending the governor for infrastructural development, youth empowerment programmes and scholarship awards to Ebonyi indigenes.
He also praised Senator Nwebonyi for what he described as effective representation and impactful constituency projects.
While reaffirming support for the APC, Akpu urged elected officials to expand empowerment initiatives, scholarship opportunities and welfare programmes for the people.
He also appealed to politicians who were unsuccessful in their ambitions to remain peaceful and continue contributing to the development of the state.
The Association's Public Relations Officer, Deacon Elijah Ituma, described Town Union Presidents as critical stakeholders in grassroots administration, peace-building and conflict resolution, urging government officials to engage them more actively in governance.
Similarly, the President-General of Alioma Community, Monday Eze, called for greater inclusion of Town Union leaders in government programmes, arguing that community-based implementation would enhance policy outcomes.
Other community leaders, including Prince Sunday Ogboso of Mbeke-Ishieke Autonomous Community and Dr. Austin Ezeora Aligwe of Ndieze Enyim Autonomous Community, attributed their support for the APC to ongoing development projects and infrastructural improvements across the state.
They, however, called for improved welfare packages for Town Union Presidents, including stipends and empowerment programmes, noting that grassroots leaders play vital roles in community development and mobilization.
The leaders pledged continued support for peace, unity and development in Ebonyi State while reaffirming their commitment to mobilizing support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
