Enugu Stage Dramatic Comeback to Clinch South-East Invitational Basketball Title In Ebonyi ‎

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Enugu State emerged champions of the South-East Invitational Basketball Tournament after rallying from behind to defeat hosts Ebonyi State 45-42 in a pulsating final held at the newly commissioned Richard Idike Basketball Court at Ebonyi Mall, Abakaliki.
‎ ‎The thrilling victory capped a successful campaign for the Coal City side in the three-day championship organized by the South-East Basketball Association. ‎ The tournament attracted some of the region's finest basketball talents and served as a platform for talent identification and possible opportunities with the Coal City Blazers.
‎ ‎Enugu trailed for much of the final but displayed remarkable resilience and composure in the closing stages, overturning the deficit to seal the title before an enthusiastic crowd that witnessed one of the competition's most exciting encounters. ‎ ‎Earlier in the third-place playoff, Imo State edged Anambra State 38-35 to secure bronze, highlighting the increasing competitiveness and rising standard of basketball across the South-East region. ‎ ‎Speaking after the final, Enugu coach Olumide Austin described the tournament as a significant boost for basketball development, noting that it provided a valuable avenue for discovering and nurturing young talents. ‎ ‎His Imo State counterpart, Victor Oguguo, also commended the initiative, stressing that regular competitions are essential for the growth of the game and for exposing emerging players to higher levels of competition. ‎ ‎The coaches and players equally applauded the South-East representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Chief Ugo Udezue, for constructing the Richard Idike Basketball Court, which hosted the tournament. ‎ ‎They described the facility as a landmark investment in sports development in Ebonyi State and the South-East, expressing confidence that it would enhance training, host major competitions, facilitate talent discovery, and inspire more young people to embrace basketball.
