PDP Chieftain Knocks Ebonyi Commissioner Over 2027 Comments, Zoning Debate
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Mazi Moses Idika, has criticised the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oguzor Offia Nwali, over comments concerning the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Idika, who spoke on behalf of the Anyi Ga Emeya Movement, accused the commissioner of engaging in “political showmanship” instead of focusing on governance and delivering results in his ministry.
He alleged that despite resources allocated to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, there had been little visible impact within the last three years.
The PDP stalwart also faulted recent remarks credited to Nwali advising the PDP governorship hopeful, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, to abandon his ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
According to Idika, governorship contests in Ebonyi State since 1999 had always remained open to aspirants from the three senatorial districts, insisting that the state’s political history does not support claims of an exclusive zoning arrangement.
He cited previous governorship elections involving candidates from Ebonyi North, Central and South zones, including former governors and opposition contenders across different political parties.
Idika further alleged that some political actors were promoting divisive narratives ahead of 2027, including claims that Governor Francis Nwifuru had plans to hand over power to a particular bloc in 2031.
He maintained that power in a democracy should be determined through elections and not political propaganda.
The PDP spokesman described Dr. Odii as a patriotic leader committed to industrialisation, investment and economic development in Ebonyi State.
He urged residents of the state to remain focused on democratic participation as preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum.
