Every State Has Become A Construction Site — Umahi

From Wilson Ogbonnaya Okereke, Abakaliki The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the administration’s massive investment in infrastructure across the country. Umahi said the impact of the Federal Government’s road projects was being felt across the states, with several major projects currently under construction.
The minister spoke on Friday, August 14, 2026, during an inspection tour of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa Super Highway. He said the completion of the project would significantly reduce travel time between the benefiting states and other parts of the country, while improving security and boosting economic activities. Umahi said the project would particularly benefit farmers and businesses by opening up rural communities and connecting agricultural producers to wider markets. “When we talk about this project, one needs to think about the farmers; when Sokoto becomes close to Ebonyi, when Calabar becomes close to Kebbi, and when the marginalisation of the South-East becomes a thing of the past,” he said. The minister said although the challenges faced by Nigerians could not be eliminated overnight, the efforts of the Tinubu administration to address infrastructural gaps and the perceived marginalisation of the South-East should be acknowledged. He disclosed that the approximately 300-kilometre project, covering parts of Benue, the Nsukka axis of Enugu State, Kogi and Owette, would be equipped with CCTV cameras and solar-powered streetlights to enhance security. “The President has turned every state to a construction site and enhanced inclusive governance by taking the South-East to the centre,” Umahi said. He also called on Nigerians to recognise the impact of the ongoing infrastructure projects, saying the administration’s efforts could be reciprocated through support at the forthcoming general election. Umahi commended the construction company, Infioquest, for the quality of work being executed, noting that the project was awarded through a competitive bidding process. The minister further disclosed that Section One of the 750-kilometre Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway had been completed.
